Metallica Rocks Levi’s Stadium as M72 World Tour Hits Bay Area
Metallica made a thunderous return to the Bay Area on Friday, thrilling tens of thousands of fans at Levi’s Stadium during the band’s M72 World Tour.
A Long-Awaited Homecoming
After nearly three years on the road, the legendary band finally brought its globe-spanning tour home. This two-night stop in Santa Clara is especially meaningful, as Metallica originally formed in the Bay Area.
Fans began lining up at 3 a.m., hoping to score limited-edition merchandise. For many, the 11-hour wait was worth it.
“Part of the fun is meeting people who love the same music,” said Sean Merriman of San Leandro.
No Repeats, Just Rock
Each night on the tour is designed to be unique. Not only does Metallica promise no repeat songs or openers, but the band also performs from a massive circular stage. With four rotating drum kits, the setup ensures fans get an up-close experience from every angle.
As a result, the show feels both personal and high-energy.
“I got my first album in ’83,” said Adam Potter of Walnut Creek. “I first saw them live in ’86. They’ve been part of my life ever since.”
Generations United by Metal
Unsurprisingly, Metallica’s reach spans generations. For some, the concert is a family tradition.
“I grew up on Metallica, and now my kids love them too,” said Nolan Korando of Sonora. “This is our second show this year.”
Clearly, the band’s four-decade legacy continues to inspire fans young and old.
Tickets, Curfew, and What’s Next
Tickets for the two Levi’s Stadium concerts range from $70 to $1,800. Although Friday’s show is over, many fans are already planning to return for Sunday’s second performance.
The City of Santa Clara has imposed curfews: 11 p.m. on Friday and 10 p.m. on Sunday. Fittingly, the city expects the show to “fade to black” as the final note rings out.
